Adult Education

 

Effective July 1, 2009, the Adult Education, Adult Correctional Education and GED testing programs from the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) will transfer to the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (DLLR).

Beginning July 1, 2009, staff and functions currently located at 200 West Baltimore Street - Baltimore, MD 21201, will be located with DLLR's Division of Workforce Development and Adult Learning at 1100 Eutaw Street, First Floor - Baltimore, Maryland 21201.

Contact phone numbers for staff will remain the same and the Adult Education hotline number (1-800-358-3010) and the Maryland Adult Literacy Resource Center website will remain operational.

The Office of Adult Education and Literacy Services provides leadership and support to ensure that all Maryland adults have access to adult learning and basic skills instruction to enable them to be effective workers, family members, partners in their children's education, and citizens.

The Office also provides resources for an array of instructional services and GED testing for adults who are at least 16 years old and not enrolled in school. Instructional services include Adult Basic Education (ABE); English as a Second Language (ESOL); GED Preparation; Family Literacy; and Workplace Education classes, as well as the Maryland External Diploma Program. GED Testing services include monthly GED testing in locations throughout the state; adults who pass the tests earn a Maryland High School Diploma.
