2019 State Apprenticeship Expansion Grant - Maryland Apprenticeship and Training Program (MATP)

US Department of Labor (USDOL) Award:
In June 2019, MD Department of Labor (MD Labor) received a State Apprenticeship Expansion Grant award of $2,854,797.39 from the USDOL for a three-year grant period, July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2022. The goal of Maryland’s State Apprenticeship Expansion Grant is to expand Registered Apprenticeship and grow capacity by (1) increasing staffing and infrastructure; (2) strategically conducting outreach and education with stakeholders, including the business community and Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Partners; and (3) advancing innovative practices. MD Labor is leveraging this grant money to support multiple initiatives, including two funding opportunities - the Apprenticeship Innovation Fund 2.0 (AIF 2.0) and the Related Instruction Reimbursement Program. As of September 3, 2022, MD Labor has fully funded all proposals for the Apprenticeship Innovation Fund 2.0 Grants and has obligated all grant funds for the Related Instruction Reimbursement Program. This program is no longer accepting applications at this time. Should additional funding become available, this site will be updated.

Reimbursement Fund:
MD Labor allocated $699,226.39 of its State Apprenticeship Expansion Grant to the Related Instruction Reimbursement Program. This program was available to Registered Apprenticeship sponsors or participating/signatory employers with a Registered Apprenticeship sponsor to cover the actual cost of Related Instruction, up to $3,000 per new Registered Apprentice in their first year of a Registered Apprenticeship. These funds were also accessible for Youth and/or School-to-Apprentices to utilize as a supportive service to pay any actual costs associated with becoming a Registered Apprentice. As of September 3, 2022, MD Labor has obligated all grant funds for the Related Instruction Reimbursement Program. This program is no longer accepting applications at this time. Should additional funding become available, this site will be updated.
