State Board of Public Accountancy - CPA Examinations - Compliance with the Americans With Disabilities Act

The Maryland Board of Public Accountancy complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act in accommodating examination candidates with special needs. Any candidate requesting special assistance or accommodations due to a handicapping condition must submit to the Board DOCUMENTATION OF THE NEED FOR ACCOMMODATION FROM A LICENSED PROFESSIONAL QUALIFIED TO MAKE AN EVALUATION.

The documentation should a) establish the existence of a "disability" within the meaning of applicable law; b) describe how the resulting functional limitations impact the individual's ability to take the examination c) demonstrate the need for an accommodation, and d) specifically identify the accommodation(s) that are believed to be appropriate. The evaluation should be no more than three years prior to the examination and include a history of previous accommodation. Click here for ADA Accommodations Request Form (Word document, 35KB, download Word viewer for free).

If you are requesting an accommodation for the first time, documentation must be submitted with this form in a sealed envelope with your name and indicate ATTN: CPA Exam Coordinator. Your application will not be processed and forwarded for scheduling your examination until it is reviewed and approved by the Board of Public Accountancy.
