*** Please be advised that effective January 3, 2024, the Inactive Master Electrician status has been replaced by the Uninsured Master Electrician – Not Authorized to Work license. Anyone with a current Inactive Master status will be automatically switched to the new license. The State Board of Electricians (“Board”) is pleased to inform you of the passage of Senate Bill 762 – Maryland Electricians Act – Revisions (“SB 762”), Chapter 708, which became the law of Maryland on May 30, 2021, and which went into effect on July 1, 2021, unless otherwise noted. The offices of the Maryland State Board of Master Electricians are open and serving our customers through our online licensing resources, via e-mail and telephone, and by limited in-person appointments. Please note, walk-in assistance is not available. We can be reached using our contacts page for e-mail addresses and telephone numbers of individual staff members; or

Use Labor’s Central Scheduling System to meet with a representative from one of our boards or commissions. Please select the type of appointment you need from our list of available in-person services using the drop-down menu on the scheduler. You will receive an e-mail confirming the date and time of your appointment.

Appointments are available Monday through Friday, from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at our offices located at 1100 N. Eutaw Street, Room 121 Baltimore, MD 21201. Please arrive at least 10 minutes early before your scheduled appointment time.

Welcome to our home page. Due to the passage of Senate Bill 762 – Maryland Electricians Act – Revisions, Chapter 708, effective July 1, 2021, the State Board of Master Electricians will be re-named the State Board of Electricians. Also starting on July 1 the board will accept applications for apprentice and journey licenses, in addition to issuing master electrician licenses. Please see the link to SB 762 for other important details regarding the changes the bill makes to electrical licensing in Maryland.
