The Secondhand Precious Metal Object Dealer and Pawnbrokers Agency qualifies, licenses and regulates individuals who trade with the public in secondhand precious metal objects. This agency also regulates pawnbrokers in those Maryland Counties that have not established local pawn laws. Secondhand Precious Metal Object Dealers and Pawnbrokers are regulated under the provisions of Business Regulation Article, Annotated Code of Maryland, Title 12 and the Code of Maryland Regulations, Title 9, Subtitle 25. The Board , in conjunction with local law enforcement agencies, investigates complaints against licensees, as well as complaints related to unlicensed practice. The Board may issue a reprimand, suspend or revoke a license as well as assess any monetary penalties for violations of the law and regulations.
