Effective October 1, 2009 dealers licensed by the Maryland Department of Labor are required to file daily transaction reports to local law enforcement agencies by
electronic means as required by changes to the Maryland Secondhand Precious Metal Object Dealers and Pawnbrokers
Act enacted by the 2009 Maryland General Assembly. Dealers must be prepared to meet this new requirement. The
Department encourages dealers who have not already established an account to file transactions electronically to
contact Business Watch International (BWI) directly Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The toll-free
number is 1-877-404-3368 ext. 578. (Please keep in mind the 2 hour time zone difference. If you call BWI at 9 a.m.
it will be 7 a.m. their time.)
Please have your Maryland Department of Labor issued dealer number (Registration Number) available when you call. The contact
person is Tim; the BWI representative who will assist dealers in determining what desktop systems and/or
Internet requirements is needed. Tim will provide each dealer with a log-on and password as well as any
training needed on how to use the system immediately.
Business Watch International (BWI) is currently receiving a high volume of calls and dealers may receive a busy
signal. Dealers who have difficulty in contacting BWI should contact the appropriate County Administrator (listed
below and attached). Contacting the appropriate county administrator will be considered a good faith attempt at
compliance during this period of transition. County administrators will make every effort to assist you as quickly as
possible.
Thank you for your patience.
