The Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (DLLR) is seeking qualified
candidates for with the Division of Labor and Industry. This is the entry level of work in
the registration and inspection of boilers, pressure vessels and related equipment in order to
ensure compliance with applicable State laws, rules and regulations and to safeguard the
general public. Employees in this classification do not supervise.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high
school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Three (3) years of experience in high pressure boiler and pressure vessel
construction or repair, or as an operating engineer in charge of a high pressure boiler
operation, or as an inspector of high pressure boilers and pressure vessels.
Notes:
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering plus one (1) year of experience in the design,
construction, operation, or inspection of high-pressure vessels may be substituted for the
above experience.
- A degree in another branch of Engineering plus two (2) years of experience in the
design, construction, operation, or inspection of high pressure boilers and
pressure vessels may be substituted for the above experience.
Licenses, Registrations and Certificates
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties that require the
operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a
motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
Special Requirements
- Employees in this classification are subject to call-in on a 24 hours a
day basis and will be required to provide the employing agency with a
telephone number where they can be reached, or carry an electronic pager.
- Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing
in accordance with Code of Maryland regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal
Use of Drugs.
Selection Process
Successful candidates will be placed on the eligible list categorized as Best
Qualified, Better Qualified, and Qualified. The eligible list will be used by DLLR for an
initial period of one (1) year to fill vacancies in this classification.

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training and
experience related to the requirement of this position. Your rating will be based on the
