Position Duties:
Elevator Inspector I is the intermediate level of work in the inspection of
elevators, escalators, moving walks, lifts, hoists, amusement rides, and other related
devices in order to ensure compliance with applicable laws, rules, regulations, and codes
and to safeguard the general public.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high
school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Two (2) years of experience in the construction, installation,
repair, adjustment or inspection of elevators, escalators, moving walks, lifts, hoists or
other devices.
Note: Experience performing safety inspections of elevators and related
devices for a federal, state or local regulatory inspection program may be substituted on a
year-for-year basis for the required high school education.
Licenses, Registrations and Certificates:
- Employees in this classification must obtain a Qualified Elevator
Inspector certificate issued by an organization accredited by the American
Society of Mechanical Engineers.
- Employees in this class may be assigned duties that require the operation
of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess
a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
Special Requirements:
- Employees in this classification are subject to call-in on a 24 hours a
day basis and will be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone
number where they can be reached, or carry an electronic pager.
- Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing
in accordance with Code of Maryland regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal
Use of Drugs.
Selection Process:
Successful candidates will be placed on the eligible list categorized
as Best Qualified, Better Qualified or Qualified. The eligible list will be used by DLLR for
an initial period of one (1) year to fill vacancies in this classification.

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training and
experience related to the requirements of this job. Therefore, it is important that you
report all experience and education that is related to this position in a complete and
detailed manner.
